Udupi, Jun 27: Udupi district vigilance and monitoring committee held a meeting on Friday June 26 under the chairmanship of Shobha Karandlaje, Udupi-Chikmagalur MP, at Zilla Panchayat meeting hall, Rajathadri, Manipal.



Speaking at a press meet, Karandlaje said, “The officials are ignoring their duty in following up on approval of proposals and usage of funds. The central government has released Rs 6 crore for Kadikanyana and Rs 2.25 crore for Malpe dredging work but the project is awaiting a cabinet order. The Marvanthe break water construction will be completed by the end of March 2016. The vaccination programme for cattle will start from August 1. The multi-village drinking water project was completed at Hebri. Nearly Rs 2.96 crore was released in the first phase and in the second phase a proposal of Rs 5 crore is under process at Nitte panchayat.”

“There are 22, 200 families requiring toilets along with 2,200 new toilets under NREGA for Udupi district. There are 24,000 applications pending for issue of license for building construction, but the inappropriate border is creating problems. Nearly Rs 7.2 crore has been released to 34 Rashtriya Madhyama schools in the district. The total plan was not effectively implemented in the country. Under water shed management, Rs 5.90 lac has been spent out of a total of Rs 5.96 lac,” added Karandlaje.
“Agriculture department officials have said that nearly 22 mm of rain was reported in the district, 2, 300 hectares of seeds inseminated, and 150 hectares of paddy still in stock at KSC. The present year’s target is an yield of 45, 000 hectares. Two post metric hostels for boys (tribe community) have been sanctioned for Udupi but a girls’ hostel is our immediate requirement since existing hostels are facing a shortage of seats. They have obtained 516 applications in the present year both from Udupi and Byndoor. ITDP has spotted 30 cents for a hostel near the city,” she said.

“Nearly Rs 28 crore is available in the SC/ST fund and there are plans to bring in six new medical units for naxal-affected areas. Approximately 34 students have been enrolled at the district Kendriya Vidyalaya due to late admission,” said Karandlaje and urged people to enroll more students in this school.

“Nearly 263 Nirantara Jyothis have been sanctioned for the district. The upgradation work on the Malpe-Theerthahalli-Agumbe state highway is underway,” she said.

Karandlaje stressed the need for maintaining food quality and cleanliness. Regarding arecanut disease ‘Koleroga’, she said that there are 12 cases pending settlement. “The highest number of 44 cases are found in the district and Rs 1, 60, 000 is yet to be recovered. There are 205 applications received from the three taluks,” conveyed Karandlaje.

The MP spoke to media persons regarding the bills due on sugarcane crops. “The state government should recover money from the sugarcane owners then distribute the dues to farmers,” she added.

Karandlaje demanded maintenance of a strong police presence in desolated areas and focus on human trafficking and the drug mafia. She said that she has faith in the Udupi police department and sought revelation of truth in other sexual harassment cases. Deputy commissioner Vishal Kumar and CEO Kanagavalli were present.
