Mumbai, Jul 13: A programme was conducted for the distribution of English and Kannada text books and stationery to the children of Municipality Kannada Medium School situated at Ganesh Maidan at Kurla West.

Srinivasa N Udupa, chief priest of Uma Maheshwari temple, Jerimeri presided over the programme held at Sony Apartment here in the afternoon of July 11. Udupa said, “A few decades ago there were many Kannada medium schools conducting their curriculum enthusiastically in Mumbai. It is unfortunate that their numbers are dwindling due to love for the English language and lack of teachers. The hesitation that those are municipal schools is another reason."

"However some Kannada medium schools are functioning as the people of north Karnataka are giving priority to Kannada schools. The students need support along with stationery. Children should give up their inferiority complex and brighten up their future. If they study hard everything will fall into place,” Udupa said.

Local donor for education, Gopala Krishna Public Trust member and priest R L Bhat was present as chief guest. Dr Poornima Sudhakar Shetty, assistant at Kannada department of Mumbai University delivered the keynote address.

The English and Kannada books were brought from Mangaluru by journalist Rons Bantwal with the cooperation of Arif Deralakatte who were thanked on the occasion. Teachers Kattimane Srimantha, Javir Mahadev and parents of the students were present.

Thonse Sanjiv Poojary welcomed the gathering. Dr Poornima Shetty compered the programme. Ravi Mendon Kurkal proposed the vote of thanks.
