Incessant rain in Delhi but no traffic jams

New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS): Incessant rain in the national capital on Saturday caused water-logging in many parts, but being a holiday - Independence Day - and less vehicles plying on the roads, traffic police did not report any snarls.

"Even if there were hours long rain in the national capital, we didn't receive any complaint regarding traffic jam from any one. This was possibly because today (Saturday) was a holiday and people were not out like on other week days," said a traffic police official.

According to the India Meteorological Department, Delhi received 8.3 mm rainfall till 5.30 p.m.

Water-logging was seen at several places like Munirka, Green Park, Arjun Nagar and IIT Gate in south Delhi and Wazirabad to Bhajanpura Road in north Delhi.

The Met has forecast a generally cloudy sky on Sunday with rain in several parts of the city. The maximum and the minimum temperature of the day are likely to hover around 33 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature on Saturday settled at 28.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average. The maximum temperature of the day was recorded at 33.6 degree Celsius, normal for the season.

Friday's maximum temperature was 33.8 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the season. The minimum temperature was 28.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average.
