Mangalore, Jul 2: Nihal Manjunath of Lourdes Central School dominated the premier League Chess tournament held in the city here on Sunday July 1.
According to a press release, Nihal scored victorious 4.5 points in 5 rounds to secure the title, and Adith Jagadish was placed second with the 4 points brilliant game between the two had ended in a draw in fourth round.
Kaushik R of Canara College scored 3.5 points and was placed third; Andrea D’Souza spurred a major upset by holding Adith for a draw. And Suraj Prabhu also took the lime light with his gusty performance by holding Kaushik for draw.
In general league under the age category 15 Vineeth Sherlekar of St Aloysius English Higher Primary scored prizewinning 4.5 points to claim the title. Seema Crasta of SVS Batwal scored 4 points and was placed runner up. Shashank U of canara High school was placed third with 4 points.
Under the age of 9 Shishirdeep of MRPL school, Vivek K M of Kendriya Vidyalaya and Utkarsh Salian of Lourdes Central were tied for the first place with 4 points each to their credit. Shishirdeep was awarded winner on better tie-break score, Vivek and Utkarsh had to be content with the second and the third place respectively.
