Kasargod, Sep 12: A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle packets of ganja concealed among eatables through a passenger bound for Qatar.

Abdul Naushad (36), a resident of Nellikatte Kayarkochi has been arrested by the Badiadka police.

It is learnt that when Haneef, a resident of Nellikatte Chennadka was departing for Qatar, Naushad gave him a parcel of fruits in which he also slipped in packets of ganja.

Naushad gave the parcel to Haneef on the night of Wednesday September 9 and asked him to pass it on to his friend in Qatar. Luckily for Haneef, there was no space for the parcel in his baggage, so he opened it to separate the items and make space for them.

On opening the parcel, he found a pair of old bermuda shorts which evoked suspicion. On checking, he found ganja packets in its pockets.

Haneef then informed the police who arrived at the spot and took Naushad into custody. During interrogation, Naushad admitted that the ganja packets were for his friend who stays in Qatar, police said.

I do remember how my innocent neighbor from a poor family was trapped by another socially upper class person through giving ganga to carry on to Kuwait years back. He kept the packet in the carry on bag since the well packed packet was handed over to him at the last minute of his departure to the airport.

This poor 23 year old educated person was arrested at the airport in Kuwait his family had to drink a lot of tears. This person was finally released from the jail because the authorities someway came to know that he was used in a tricky way.

This person suffered severe emotional damage while in jail whenever he comes to visit Kerala, he didn't want to see anybody, but kept himself and was drinking full time.

Human natures is too wicked, and for their profit, they will trick and cheat anybody. There is no distinction in this group whether friends or relatives or even the so called religious gurus and hierarchy.

Beware of everybody as if robbers until proven real friends.

If carrying a parcel for someone else, as a rule....
    1. Insist on the parcel being open and tell the person you will separate the item. This deters them from selecting illegal items.
    2. Never carry medicines without knowing what the medicine is for and without checking legality
    3. If carrying medicine insist on prescription in the name of person it is meant for along with his passport copy and contact details. At least it will help get you out of a sticky situation.
    4. Never accept sealed packets or envelopes. Refuse point blank.
    5. The open item principle deters the sender, however, If it has contraband items when you check, as in this case, return the parcel to the person, refusing to take, as a police complaint will lead to further animosity and problems. (Another option will be to deliver removing the contraband)

My dear friends who are travelling to gulf states or anywhere abroad,
Please learn to say a 'NO' firmly and politely to whoever it may be, whenever there is a request to carry any packages. Pack your luggage by yourselves and carry only items bought by you.
One small succumb to sympathy, friendship, relations... any thing can ruin your life permanently.
