Monsoon in England - Photo Album

UK, Jul 24: Looking at some of the pictures (Not all!) here you would probably think Mumbai has been hit by monsoon floods again, but in fact the shocking truth is that the visuals are of Southern, Western and Central England.

Thousands of flood victims have been left trapped in their homes and emergency services are battling to help them amid scenes that resemble a third world disaster.

The Army and Royal Air Force have been deployed to airlift people who are trapped in the largest rescue operation seen in the UK in peacetime.

Soldiers and fireman are delivering food parcels and have set up soup kitchens in towns cut off by the worst flooding to hit England in 60 years.

Food and drinking water shortages, panic buying and the threat of looting are some of the effects of the floods, with more than 3,50,000 in Gloucestershire facing no drinking water for the next few days as a water treatment plant has been contaminated with flood waters.

It is rivers Severn, Avon and Thames that have burst their banks due to the repeated torrential that are causing the severe flooding.

While London suffered minor flooding on Friday due to four inches of rain in 90 mins, the water has drained away and the capital has so far managed to escape the worst.

However the waters in the River Thames are continuing to rise and London is definitely under threat.

The forces of nature do not seem to discriminate rich/poor,previleged/underprevileged. It seems to be a fore warning "Be prepared" and respect nature as our ancients did.
