Abu Dhabi: Leo Rodrigues elected president of KCO

Media Release

Abu Dhabi, Oct 19: Founding president of Konkani Cultural Organization (KCO), veteran entrepreneur and energetic community leader Leo Rodrigues has been elected the new president of KCO for the year 2015 - 2016.

The election was held during the 21st annual general meeting of KCO, the premier Konkani organization of Abu Dhabi, on Friday October 16 here.

Leo has been serving the association since its inception and was mainly responsible for its revival. Leo is well-known in Abu Dhabi for his philanthropic and social work among the Konkani speaking community in Abu Dhabi as well as in the UAE. His versatile leadership will definitely add extra zeal among members. This is the 6th time Leo is being installed as the president of KCO.

During the same meeting, dynamic youth leaders Canute Kelarai and Amitha Costa were re-elected general secretary and treasurer respectively for the forthcoming year. Both are known to be dedicated members of the organization and will be ably supporting Leo in his responsibility.

The other office bearers inducted to the present committee are:

Vice-president – Vivek Serrao
Joint secretary – Claudia Lydia Lobo
Auditor – Franklyn D’Cunha
Entertainment secretary – Benette D'Mello
Sports secretary – Sandya Vas
Media co-ordinator – Valerian Fernandes
Advisory committee–Dolphy Vas, Michael D’Silva and Gerald D’Mello

The outgoing president Michael D'Silva thanked the members for their support and urged them to give the same support and cooperation to the new president.

The new president in his speech requested members to work hard towards the set goals of KCO of helping the needy, especially people suffering from serious illness.

KCO has been growing in popularity year after year and has become well known both in the UAE as well in India for their benevolent work in helping the needy and deserving students. They have initiated several scholarships through Samanvaya of Mangaluru and have been helping scores of people suffering with critical diseases. They are involved in various social, cultural and religious activities in Abu Dhabi.

The induction of Leo Rodrigues will add new vigour to the vibrant organization and bolster their efforts in working selflessly towards the downtrodden and needy people in the society, especially in Dakshina Kannada district.
