Mohali, Nov 6 (IANS): India reached 13/1 in their second innings to take a 30-run overall lead at tea after bowling out South Africa for 184 runs on the second day of the first Test here on Friday.

For the hosts, Murali Vijay (11 batting) and Cheteshwar Pujara (2 not out) were at the crease when tea was called. Opener Shikhar Dhawan was out for a duck for the second time in the match.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin earlier picked up five wickets to hand India the initiative. He (5/51) was assisted by fellow tweakers Ravindra Jadeja (3-55) and Amit Mishra (2-55) at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium here.

AB de Villiers (63) was the top scorer for the visitors in the first innings, who started the day on their overnight score of 28/2 in reply to India's 201.

Resuming play after lunch at 127/5, the visitors never looked like settling down, losing wickets at regular intervals to hand the hosts the advantage.

De Villiers notched up his 36th Test fifty but was running short of partners with the Indian spinners dismissing the tailenders cheaply.

Vernon Philander (3), Simon Harmer (7), Dale Steyn (6), Imran Tahir (4) all fell in quick succession to give India s vital lead before coming into bat in the second innings.

South Africa’s only hope, de Villiers after scoring a fine half-century in a spin-friendly wicket was bowled by leg-spinner Amit Mishra.

Coming into bat in the second innings, Philander yet again got the early breakthrough, dismissing Dhawan in the third over, to complete a miserable match for the Delhi left-hander.
