Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala

Karkala, Nov 12: Deepavali, the festival of lights, is perhaps the most popular and widely-celebrated of the Indian festivals. It is celebrated throughout India, as well as in Indian communities all over the world.

It has always been a tradition that the celebration of the festival is invariably accompanied by the exchange of sweets and the bursting of fireworks. The festive season mood is on full swing in and around south Canara district, with streets illuminated with neon lights and houses decorated with earthen lamps, rangoli and lanterns.

On the special occasion of Deepavali, to add more flavors and joy to the celebration this year, Little Flowers Mukamar, an association of parishioners of Mukamar, Udupi diocese spread across the UAE, will be organizing Deepavali festival celebration on Sunday, November 15 at St Theresa Church open ground from 5.30 pm onwards.

The highlight of the celebrations is that two guests from different religions will be the guest speakers. The eminent speakers are Sri Esha Vittaldasa Swamiji of Kemar Math, a popular religious leader and social activist around South Canara district, and Fr Denis D’Sa, a multi-talented personality among the Konkani community, presently serving as PRO of the diocese of Udupi. Both the sessions are expected to be a blend of informative, educative, funny, humorous experience for the listeners.

Walter Nandalike, founder and editor-in-chief of daijiworld.com will also grace the occasion as a special guest.

Apart from the mainstream religious meet, 'Raddet Er Edde', a Tulu social comedy drama will be performed by Lakumi troupe from Mangaluru as part of the entertainment programme.

As announced earlier, LFM will also celebrate its anniversary with differently-abled children on Children’s Day, November 14, at 9.30 am in Arunodaya Special School, Karkala.

It will be a fellowship formal get-together with differently-abled children and their parents. The motto behind this event is not only supporting the school with financial assistance but also creating awareness among the public that disability is not a curse; it is only a different way of living, and also to make the people aware of the struggles and agony faced by the parents of these children in the society. People with disabilities do not want pity, they just want some respect and love.

The special attraction of the anniversary celebration will be a Magic Show presented by multi-talented Puttur Suresh Nayak, who has created several records with his amazing memory skills.

Being differently-abled himself, he has been organizing awareness campaigns for the past 20 years along with various programmes including bhajans, tiger dance, Yakshagana, Krishna Vesha, dramas, comedy entertainers and much more. He has presented close to a thousand programmes in Karnataka. He entered the 2013 Limca Book of Records for recalling 518 telephone numbers in 72 minutes; Asia Book of Records for the longest tongue and India Book of Records for recalling 204 telephone numbers in 30 minutes.

Speaking to daijiworld, Fr Victor D’souza, parish priest of St Theresa Church said, "Our parishioners and I are very excited to know that LFM has decided to celebrate its 5th anniversary in our parish and also Deepavali celebration along with the surrounding non-Christian community in a special way. LFM has always been one of the key supporters of the development projects of the parish. Besides helping the parish requirements LFM members are also involved in helping in a numerous social, cultural and humanitarian causes."

He also thanked the generous sponsors and well-wishers in advance for their wholehearted support for both the events.
