Mangalore, Aug 16: Plans are afoot to develop 1.5 million sq ft of IT office space at Thumbe which is about 18 km away from the city and comes in the jurisdiction of Bantwal taluk. The establishment of this IT SEZ (special economic zone) is to be executed by the Mangalore-based B A Group

Addressing newspersons here recently, B A  Salam, the chief executive officer of B A Tech Park, Thumbe, informed that several companies have evinced interest to establish their units at the B A Tech Park. One of the major multinational IT companies has shown interest to become the key anchor tenant at IT SEZ, he added.

Replying to a query on the employment opportunities at B A Tech Park, Salam claimed that the project would create around 17,000 direct jobs and 2,000 indirect employment. Around Rs 600 crore would be invested in the project over a period of five years, he further added.

The IT SEZ to be developed on 35 acres of land by the B A group which has earmarked 1 lac sq ft each for convention centres, healthcare units among others. Another 3 lac sq ft has been earmarked for retail and other utilities, informed Salam.

CEO Salam also stated that B A Tech Park has received formal approval from the Board of Approvals (BoA) and is waiting for the final notification in this regard.
