Mangaluru: Communities show remarkable unity after miscreants pelt stones

Mangaluru, Nov 24: In yet another attempt to disrupt peace, miscreants on Monday November 23 night pelted stones at a building belonging to Koragajja Seva Samiti near Thokkottu here and damaged its window panes.

But in a remarkable show of solidarity and unity, leaders of Hindu and Muslim communities came together as one and offered prayers and took a pledge, resolving not to let the incident disrupt peace and instead leaving it to the almighty to punish the culprits.

Thokkuttu town was abuzz with activities on the occasion of Tulasi festival. But amid the festive atmosphere, two miscreants came by bike and pelted stones at the Koragajja Seva Samiti building located near TC Road and fled from the spot.

Tense atmosphere prevailed for sometime as people began gathering in large numbers. The Ullal police wasted no time in arriving at the spot and pacified the crowd, urging everyone to maintain peace and not to get provoked.

Meanwhile, leaders of both the communities also arrived. They held discussions and came to the conclusion that with peace being disrupted of late in Ullal and Thokkottu by a few miscreants, they would not allow this incident to escalate and give fillip to the miscreants' activities. They hence decided not to file any complaint.

Instead, local leaders of the Hindu community Chandrahas Ullal, Bhagawandas, Bharat and others along with those of the Muslim community, including Ullal city municipal member Farooq U H offered prayers together at Koragajja Seva Samiti building. They also took a pledge that the culprits should be punished soon and prayed to god to give good sense to those indulging in anti-social activities and trying to disrupt peace in society. They also prayed for the prevalance of peace and harmony among people.

ACP Kalyan Shetty, Ullal inspector Savitra Tej and other higher officials visited the spot.

This is a perfect example of showing the miscreants that we are all Indians and religion is a private issue of a person. When it comes to addressing issues that disrupt communal harmony, we all stand togather as citizens of India. Three cheers to the leaders of both the communities who handled the situation with right understanding.
In todays time lot of problems crop up because of lack of understanding. Finally i call on all the citizens of India to sow good seeds today so that our children would enjoy/reap good times tomorrow.

When some fuel is thrown on some items in order to raise a fire, what happens if the items refuse to burn ? The fuel ends its burning limit and the fire dies down !

This is exactly what has happened here. Bravo, people, keep up the spirit. We want a peaceful society to dwell in, lets see to what extent they are trying to sow seeds of hatred between us !

What a good gesture on the part of those few HINDU-MUSLIM people to join hand and resolve a situation like this.

It is sad and unfortunate that in a country like India there is so much tension for no reason at all. Hindus - Muslims - Christians and all are children of the same mother earth and we should try and learn to live in PEACE AND HARMONY.

kudos to those people who have tried to get together and on a peace mission.
