Udupi, Nov 29: It was a memorable evening for all those gathered at St Peter's Church grounds, Barkur here on the evening of Saturday November 28, as 'The Expressions' group presented its entertainment extravaganza 'Expressions 2015', with the motto 'Never give up'.

Fr Valerian Mendonca, chancellor of diocese of Udupi and parish priest of St Peter's Church, Barkur inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp, in the presence of Kishoo Barkur, convener, Naveen Dias, president and other office-bearers of 'The Expressions'.

Fr Valerian Mendonca in his inaugural speech said, "We only see the talents of people from other places, but talented people are there in Barkur too. I thank all those who have supported this event and provided a platform for local talents. Earlier, people of this region used to see talents emerge only from Mangaluru, but after the diocese of Udupi came into existence, people of this district also started to make their mark at various levels."

He further added, "From childhood to teenage years, we have school, college or church groups to showcase our talents. But once we cross a certain age, it is difficult to get any support. With this in view, like-minded individuals like Kishoo, Praveen, Eric, Alwyn and others started 'The Expressions' group 17 years ago and today we can see their achievements in various places. Let this continue and many more talented personalities come up through them in future. Their theme song itself, in which they thanked god for the wonderful gift of talent, says a lot about the group."

Members of 'The Expressions' enthralled the audience with a number of scintillating dances, skits and songs. The audience sat glued to their seats as singers rendered some of the evergreen hit numbers of legends. A special attraction was the 'Jumba' dance performed by Sunroce and group.

The evening culminated with the message 'Never give up' through the rendition of the song 'Jean hai tuje' written by Kishoo Barkur.

Earlier, the programme began with the theme song composed by Eric Soans Barkur, rendered by 'The Expressions' members. The formal stage programme was compered by Stephen Lewis, while Sheldon Crasta from Mangaluru compered the cultural programme. Sushma Carvalho proposed the vote of thanks.
