Bantwal, Dec 4: In connection with an incident in which Budda Naik (57), who was part of a hunting team, was fired at accidentally and killed on Tuesday night, believing noises created by him to be of a wild boar, the police arrested four accused and produced them in the court here on Thursday December 3.

The arrested accused are Satish Gowda (35), Sundar Gowda (32), Chidananda Gowda (30) and owner of the gun, Venkappa Gowda (49). Allegedly, all these persons had accompanied Budda Naik alias Muddanna from Dambe in Punacha village in the taluk for boar hunting in a private land belonging to a local farmer at Natti on Punacha-Toranakatte Road. It is being claimed that the gun, which was in the hand of Satish Gowda, accidentally went off and made its way through the forehead of Budda. Budda was a jeep driver by profession.

The hunting team had conveyed information about the incident over phone to Shashidhar, son of the deceased, asking him to come to Punacha town. They then brought the body to the home of deceased, and escaped after leaving the mortal remains there.

After a complaint was received, special teams had been formed under the direction of Puttur assistant superintendent of police (ASP), Rishvanth. A team led by Vittal police sub-inspector, Prakash Devadiga, succeeded in arresting the accused from Mani Junction on Wednesday night.

The accused have been remanded to judicial custody till December 17. Investigation is progressing under the directions of district superintendent of police, Dr Sharanappa and additional superintendent of police, Vincent Shantakumar and guidance of ASP, Rishvanth.

Instead of escaping they should have surrendered to the nearest police station. It is not a deliberate killing but a mistaken identity and the punishment will be lighter if you surrender yourself.

The word escaped used in this article kind of brings a bad image on these people.
They might have been upset too that their friend died because of their blendor so they stayed away from the funeral.
