Kasargod, Dec 6: Stone pelting incidents from many parts of the district have been reported since Saturday December 5 night and four persons have been injured as a result. Most of buses have stopped services and the movements of people from place to place have been greatly affected.

As December 6 is the anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition, some miscreants have used this opportunity to create tension in the district, sources said. Similar incidents had taken place at Uppala and Manjeshwar in the past also. Hence December 6 has become a day of undeclared bandh in the area from the past many years.

Though some buses started operations in the morning as usual, later the bus operators stopped the services citing less number of passengers. Hence the people who reached particular places in the morning could not go back. They are still waiting for the buses to resume services. But the service between Mangaluru and Kasargod by government operators remain unaffected so far.

The buses from Kerala state transport in Manjeshwar and Uppala were stoned on Saturday night. A private bus was also targeted. A Kerala state transport bus travelling between Kasargod to Mangaluru was stoned at Manjeshwar by youths who came by bikes. The youths then fled from the scene. Driver Abhikumar (42) was injured.

Another state transport bus at Uppala was also stoned. The miscreants broke the glass of the private bus which was parked in front of the owner’s house on Saturday night. A fish lorry which was moving from Goa to Alappuzha in Kerala was stoned and the driver Babu (50) and cleaner Shibu (36) were injured. A Kerala state transport bus was stoned near Uppala petrol bunk. Some youth who came by bikes did this act, it is said.

Tyre burning incident was reported on Kasargod railway station road which affected the vehicular traffic. Police who arrived at the spot helped in clearing the traffic jam.

The action of private buses in keeping off the roads has complicated the situation.

A tyre burning incident near a prayer centre at Badiyadka has been reported. Police arrived at the spot and took appropriate action.
