Mangaluru: Women music artistes charm audience as 'Sthree Swarangini' begins

Mangaluru, Dec 13: Music aficionados gathered at Nalanda auditorium in the city were treated to a splendid evening on Saturday December 13 as noted women artistes performed with grace and panache at the 'Sthree Swarangini' music festival.

The two-day 'Sthree Swarangini', a musical festival exclusively featuring women artistes, has been organized by Sangeet Bharati Foundation in collaboration with Karnataka Bank, Corporation Bank, Expert Group and Ideal Ice Creams.

P Jayaram Bhat, managing director of Karnataka Bank inaugurated the event.

Addressing the gathering, Jayaram Bhat said, "Normally, artistes are beyond our reach, but through Sangeet Bharati Foundation we could organize this programme. I feel really proud and happy to be part of this event."

After the inaugural ceremony, noted tabla artiste Anuradha Pal from Mumbai performed a riveting solo, accompanied by Adithi from Pune on harmonium.

Anuradha Pal's performance was followed by a splendid flute recital Jugalbandi by Sushmitha and Debopriya sisters from Mumbai, with Anuradha Pal accompanying them on tabla. Both the performances of the evening enchanted the audience.

Dr Subramanya, central excise commissioner, Dr K Mohan Pai, Vikas Kumar, executive director of Corporation Bank, Ustad Rafique Khan, president of Sangeeta Bharati Foundation, Narendra Nayak, vice-president, and others were present.

Usha Prabha Nayak compered the programme. The artistes who performed were felicitated on the occasion.

Vibha Nayak of Mangaluru will present Hindustani classical vocal recital on December 13 at 5 pm, accompanied by Adithi Garade from Pune on harmonium and Muktha Raste from Mumbai on tabla. Classical Santoor recital by Suma Hegde from Sirsi will be at 6 pm. Vijetha Hegde from Honnavar will accompany her on tabla.

Classical vocal music Jugalbandi by Pallavi Joshi and Apoorva Gokhale from Mumbai will be next at 7 pm. They will be accompanied by Adithi on harmonium and Muktha Raste on tabla.
