Mangalore, Aug 28: Despite increased security and strict vigil by the police, the city has been witnessing more and more theft and robbery cases these days. While it is often said that thieves like darkness, the number of broad daylight thefts too is on the rise these days. One can just take the example of almost Rs 7.50 lac theft in a cellphone shop on K S Rao Road a few days ago. Even theft cases in temples, churches and other places of worship too have increased by leaps and bounds. People are afraid to leave their house and go anywhere owing to these theft cases. In most of the cases, even when people go out for a single day, thieves break open into the house and decamp with valuables.
A similar incident was reported from Battagudde near Kadri Temple here in the city on Tuesday August 28 morning. Thieves who broke open into one Dr Muralidhar Bhat's house decamped with gold worth Rs 1 lac and Rs 20, 000 in cash.
Dr Muralidhar Bhat was living in a rented house owned by one Manjayya Shetty at Battagudde. On Monday August 27 afternoon, he, along with his family members had gone to his mother's place at Moodbidri.
Making use of this time, the thieves have entered the house and have decamped with valuables from his house. Theft came to light only on Tuesday August 28 morning when Dr Muralidhar Bhat's family returned home. Their house was ransacked and valuables were stolen. He immediately informed the police about the same.
The Kadri police after registering the case have began enquiry. Sniffer dog squad and finger prints experts have already visited the place.
This is one more theft which perhaps will go in the way of numerous others which have taken place earlier. Despite their efforts police have not yet been able to crack down many theft cases. Residents are already complaining about the inefficiency of the police in nabbing the thieves and solving these many cases.
