Maharashtra Civic Polls: Congress tops the table, BJP-Sena suffer setback

Mumbai, Jan 13 (PTI): Congress registered an impressive performance, leading the seat tally by winning in 105 wards in the municipal council and nagar panchayat polls and bypolls for 345 wards held across Maharashtra.

While NCP and Shiv Sena finished second and third, the BJP had to be content with only 39 seats, finishing fourth in the overall seat tally.

The results of the polls held on Sunday were declared late yesterday.

The final tally showed Congress on the top with 105 wards, followed by the NCP that won 80 wards and Sena that bagged 59 wards.

The polls were held in Raigad, Nandurbar, Ahmednagar, Nanded, Osmanabad, Hingoli, Washim and Chandrapur councils and nagar panchayats. The by-elections were conducted in Ratnagiri, Jalgaon, Latur, Yavatmal, Wardha and Bhandara.

A major setback for the BJP has come at Jamkhed in Ahmednagar district, which is the home turf of Minister of State for Home Ram Shinde, and at Chandrapur, which is represented by Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar.

Congress-NCP leaders described the outcome as a reflection of the people s disillusionment with the ruling party.

Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil said, “The results show the people’s confidence in the Congress is back and that people are disillusioned with the BJP led regime.”

The results come ahead of Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi’s Mumbai visit on January 15 and 16.

Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Dhanajay Munde of NCP said, “The results show failure of the BJP-Sena-led government in Maharashtra.”

During elections to 59 nagar panchayat and municipal councils in November 2015, BJP was in the lead with 254 wards, followed by Congress with 239, NCP with 201 and Shiv Sena with 126 wards

Since BJP came in to power, the electorate of India lost their status but the cattle became the rulers.

Now the results emerging from New Delhi to Bihar to Gujarat to U.P. to Maharastra show that the electorate are superior to cattle.

The Maharastra Government enacted a law of severe punishment for killing cattle with 5 years prison term and Rs. 10000 penalty.

How many thousands of people have been pushed to starvation and poverty? For the poor farmers, their main asset was their cattle, when the cattle get old, they sold them and got young cattle, thus the mere survival was in order. Now, the old cattle must be left alone to wander in the street or suffer. How many thousands of people lost their jobs in the trade they were doing for years?

The National Congress party had her share of corruption and the politicians have used the party for getting rich however, the people of India were not afraid of losing to head. Now, the situation is drastically changed and the virus of intolerance and fear is spreading all across India under the BJP rule. So, the electorate will be showing their strength.

I am not craving for that 15L promised by Modiji and I was not one of those dumb bhakts who believed it and were making plans how to spend same.
But I was expecting only one promise of his, although not as early as he promised the return of Black Money from abroad, but after atleast at a belated date. The progress which was highly published as the promised period was getting over slowly died down and nary a whisper is heard of it. If some serious problem crops up in the govt. then Modiji will come out with a big "Bashana" and promise again or even say the money is already with him or his Govt. and will be distributed!!!
Keep checking your accounts he will say....!!!
But people are aware now that nothing is going to happen and the promises will be forever remain as promises only to be repeated during the famous Bashanas.
One can for oneself see how people have realized their mistake and that shows from the bottom, such as civic polls etc.
In Delhi BJP is making one problem or the other to the elected AAP not to succeed which goes to show BJP's mentality. I even blame Congress for joining many-a-times with BJP in doing so. AAP's success is giving both sleepless nights.
I hope the present trend of voting continues and will be evident in the next LS polls....

... as you rightly implied that people are foolishly believed (15 lacs) and voted BJP lead NDA to power and the narrator of 15 lacs Namo become the PM of Hindustan.

However, The famous Delhi drubbing, Bihar dust biting, Rattled gujarat panchayat election & above all now the pain of Maharashtra loss is nothing but the reflection of realization of the reality by the Hindustani voters.

After all one satisfaction is that %age wise it was only 31%, means majority still won't believe.

Understanding the results of Maharastra civic polls is a matter of simple common sense. If at all BJP top bosses have little common sense should read writting on the wall and sense what is in store for the party in 2019 general elections.
After the general elections in May 2015 common people are being pushed to wall by making their life miserable.Be it Prime ministers Jana dhan yojana,Insurance schemes, going after cooking gas though out the year is a not a good idea of achhe din.The prices of daily essentials are sky rocking.Big merchants have already exploited the situation by hording methods with no remedial steps by Modi govt. Jaitley's economic ideas have pushed the manufacturing sector to a brink and todays news headlines say that manufacturing sector has shown all time downward trend.
Canvasing SB accounts, yoga class where ever he went, making non stop bhashan without any preparation does not help to gain any tangible growth.Govt known as anti corrupt are shielding big corrupts in the cabinet who are in spotlessly clean while dress showing all god given 32 all the times.

BJP's tall promises of good governance, acche din, getting black money, curbing price rise, border clashes, law and order is showing in the election results everywhere.
People will once forgive poor performance but never on false promise! It is deceiving!

LKA was right when he said achche din ayega..., this results definitely prove beyond doubt the words of BJP's Margadarshak.

Hindustani's are still waiting for their share of INR 15 lacs promised by our honorable PM Namo during his 2014 election campaign.

    Jai Ho...,
