Will not play in 2016 Rio Olympics: Kobe Bryant

Washington, Jan 17 (IANS): Basketball player Kobe Bryant said he is not going to play in the upcoming Rio de Janeiro Olympics, the media reported.

"I've had my moment," Xinhua quoted Kobe as saying on Saturday at a pre-game news conference in Salt Lake City before the Lakers' game against the Utah Jazz.

He told the decision to USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo and Olympic coach Mike Krzyzewski, saying it is time for others to enjoy the Olympic journey.

"I already let Jerry and Coach K know that I physically can't do it," Kobe said.

Kobe was on five different USA Basketball national teams over his career, with a combining 36-0 record in international competition.

He won gold at the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics.

"I want to walk off the court that last time as Laker," Kobe said.
