Mumbai, Jan 30 (IANS): The Maharashtra government on Saturday named senior IPS officer Dattatray Padsalgikar as Mumbai's new Commissioner of Police.

He will take over from incumbent Ahmad Javed, who has been named India's next ambassador to Saudi Arabia, additional chief secretary (home) K.P. Bakshi told IANS.

Congratulations to Dattatray Padsalgikar on being appointed as new Mumbai police chief. We give you full support. I also wish best of luck to Ahmad Javed for being appointed as the next India's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
