Udupi, Feb 6: Two persons who had suffered injuries in separate accidents on NH 66 between Udyavar and Pangala passed away on Saturday February 6.

The deceased have been identified as Santosh Poojary (40), a resident of Enagudde, Katapady, who was working for Mescom, and Shahida (34), wife of Razak, a resident of Bada village, Uchila.

Santosh was riding from Udyavar to Katapady when container truck moving in the same direction hit Santosh's bike. The bike fell under the truck and its wheels ran over Santosh.

A seriously injured Santosh was rushed to Manipal hospital, where he passed away later.

Santosh, who was working as a clerk at Mescom, was sole breadwinner of his family. He leaves behind his mother, wife and a daughter who is studying in third standard. He had been working as a clerk on a temporary appointment from the past 19 years. He was a member of Katapady JCI. The locals said that even though he was not a permanent employee, Mescom should come forward to help the bereaved family on humanitarian grounds.

The locals also opined that the accident took place because a road was closed for traffic at Udyavar without any warning and traffic was diverted to another road, which led to confusion.

In another incident, a woman who sustained serious injuries in an accident that took place near Kattikere in Pangala more than two weeks ago, passed away on Saturday.

Shahida was seriously injured after a scooty hit a slab beside the road near Kattikere. After battling for life for over two weeks, Shahida passed away in a hospital.

The accident took place on January 17 when Shahida along with her father Hasan and son Shahad (2) was on her way to attend a wedding in Udyavar. A dog came in the way of Hasan's scooty, and in a bid to avoid hitting the animal, he veered off to the side of the road and hit against a slab on the edge of the road. Shahida was rushed to hospital.

Shahida leaves behind her parents, husband and three young children.

The way it is going in our district we will all have to raise a fund called NH 66 accident relief fund to take care of the family of the victims. This can happen to anyone as these roads are turning out to be a killer road. I have read about a article called Highway widows where in few villages beside a highway have every house having one person dead in the high accident. Reminds me discovery channel episode where in beasts like deers and antelopes crossing crocodile infested river. Here crocodiles are these trucks and buses and deers and antelopes are poor victims who have no choice but to go on highway knowing verwell they may be a prospective prey for these 4 and 6 wheeled crocodiles.

May their souls rest in peace. Such deaths are avoidable with little precautions and little respect for other lives by drivers of bigger vehicles. Chalta hai attitude and lack of severe punishments are the root cause of such deaths.Driver causing of death of others to be punished with suspension of license

We never learn lessons from past. Can' t we live without 2 Wheelers? These killer 2 Wheeler riding craze is highly rooted in the minds of our youths. Our roads and traffic system is not suitable riding 2 Wheelers. My sincere sympathies to the deceased families.

Nobody has to give them cars. People just have to use buses for intercity travel and not two wheelers. If they already own cars, please use them instead of two wheelers. Two wheelers are designed for use within city.

we are talking about industries, bullet train and start up india and make in India, and restaurant and Bar according to our population but in medical treatment we are very poor in emergency situation. always should run to manipal it will be very far from accident spot.it should be nearby to reach within 10 minutes of incidents by ambulance and should have hospital to treat like these critical case, after that if death happened doctor should explain about his death how it happened and in which condition they received the patient and which time they attended patient and cause of death. so many death happened negligence of hospital staff and doctors. none has interested to save the one poor life.

So sad. May their souls rest in eternal peace and give comfort and courage to bear the loss of their loved ones. Accidents do happen but we do not know when, where and how. One of the reason is constructions of roads and no proper signs of diversion which misleads the drivers.
