Puttur: Yakshagana episode turns into war of words, Hanumantha walks out in a huff

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Feb 10: In a strange incident which occurred here on Tuesday February 9, a Yakshagana artiste acting out the role of Hanumantha walked out of the stage after growing angry over the attitude of an artiste acting opposite him.

'Yakshotsava' programme of Yenaneeru Mela is on at Nataraja auditorium of Lord Mahalingeshwara temple here since about a week. As part of this festival, 'Veeramani Kaalaga' episode was presented on Tuesday night. The story was unfolding in front of the audiences in an interesting way, and dialogues between the artistes depicting the roles of Hanumantha and Veeramani were providing wholesome entertainment to the people.

The exchange of retorts and repartee between these two characters became so comical that the people present were laughing their hearts out. Frequently the witty dialogues received appreciation by way of whistles and claps. However, soon the temperament changed for the worse, and the artistes stooped to the level of personal vilification. The situation seemed to be going out of hand and spoiling the atmosphere.

At this point, the artiste donning the role of Hanumantha abruptly stopped, and walked out of the stage towards the green room. Bhagawath, Dinesh Ammannaya, who was guiding the proceedings, was at a loss for words. "What can I do if artistes behave in this way?" he said aloud. The episode was withheld for a few minutes, by which period the artistes were coaxed into continuing with their roles in a sober manner, after which the programme went ahead without obstruction.

Thank God the show went on after a break. The audience who were present must have lost their mind when Hanumantha walked out of the show in a huff. It should not have happened but it happened.

Many Yakshagana artists can act & dance on the stage only if they have couple of Pegs before the show, and in between the show also they require re-charge. This Hanumantha must have gone to green room for recharge just like china battery which requires frequent recharge.

    Hello Hello..
    You call this intolerance?
You remember what happened in France?
This is India supposedly a land of Hindu Majority. See how an instance about one who donned the role of Lord Hanumantha is written about..If it were any other religion-riots would have broken out and the likes of Canards would have taken to the mikes spewing venom. Exercise 'tolerance' while commenting please.
See the funny side ...yes ...but no need to needlessly an already vitiated atmosphere.
The came back and continued their play..didn't they..it was their personal fight and nothing else...
'Hanumantha walks out in a Huff' is tolerated...tolerated..Got the point?

Substance & fact don't change just b'coz of one person's perception or interpretation.

    I quote -
"If it were any other religion-riots would have broken out .....", what does it mean...?, why this biased self righteousness..? Is it the right way to practice tolerance..? in a country which is practicing Sanatana Dharma since the existence of this beautiful universe.

By reading your response/comment further i believe there is a contraction in your views and I quote - "See the funny side ...yes ...but no need to needlessly an already vitiated atmosphere" ..., in the end you admit that there is an already vitiated atmosphere.

Being a fellow Hindustani, let me restrain from the topic & exercise my tolerance..,

    Jai Ho..,

1.Vitiated atmosphere from time immemorial by those 'who divide and rule' and stop at no length to do this for the sake of power.
    2. The intention is not to fall prey and join the 'Intolerance bandwagon' without any rhyme or reason.
    3. Of course 'humor is taken in it's stride' when it comes to a particular community. It is expected to keep mum. Not revolt -riot. If it does then a 'Intolerant Tsunami' is picturized
as if the world is on the brink..as
shown by your comment in this one off incident..without even going into the details.
    4. If other communities go on a rampage and kill in the name of their religion then it's 'Tolerance' and the whole world is expected to hear their side and listen to discourses as to why they did it.
Anything goes in this age of 'pseudo seculars'...
