Road accident at Brahmarakootlu deprives water supply to city

Mangaluru, Feb 16: After a car hit an electric pole at Brahmarakootlu on national highway between the city and Bengaluru late night on Sunday February 14, power supply to Thumbe vented dam was severed. As a result, water supply from Thumbe dam to the city was completely stopped since Sunday night.

The said accident occurred at around 1 am on Monday. A car, which went out of its driver's control, hit an electric pole by the roadside. Three poles got uprooted as a result, and power line got severed. The task of pumping water from the river came to an abrupt end. Power line was not repaired till Monday morning, the pump operator stated.

Mescom officials visited the spot on Monday and took up repair. Mescom assistant executive engineer, Narayan Bhat, said that works were completed by Monday afternoon, and power connection was restored to the pump house at the dam. People faced problems as water supply had been stopped during the entire day on Monday.

    What a pity. One Pole can stop water supply to whole of Mangalore. Why no alternative arrangement for power like Generator etc?
