Bhatkal, Feb 18: Thousands of people in and around Bhatkal participated in the last rites of Moulana Abdul Bari Nadvi. A Namaz was offered at Bhatkal Jamia Masjid.
Moulana Abdul Ahad Nadvi the son of Moulana Abdul Bari offered final prayer for the deceased scholar.
Hundreds of Bhatkali people from Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Oman and other countries of gulf region reached for the funeral of Moulana.
Tight security arrangements were made for the funeral. Bhatkal ASP Anup Kumar, CPS Prashant S Nayak and local police officers were present. Many non Muslim leaders and people took part in the funeral.
Speaking to daijiworld, Bhatkal CPI, Prashant S Nayak said, "Bhatkal has never seen such a big crowd at the funeral. The Bhatkal youth controlled the rush very well along with the police."

Bhatkal, Feb 18: Renowned scholar, principal of Jamia Islamia Educational Institutions and Jamia Masjid Khateeb Imam Moulana Abdul Bari Nadvi (54) passed away in a private hospital in Mangaluru on Wednesday, February 17, where he was under treatment for the last two months.
After completing his religious education in Nadwathul Ulema, Lucknow, he started teaching students in Jamia Islamia Institute in 1983. As its principal for the last 15 years, he was instrumental in making it one of the best centres for religious education in the country.
He was fondly known as Bari Maulana by his admirers. He was serving as Khateeb and Moulana in Jamia Masjid for the last 35 years. With his death, Bhatkal has lost a thinker and a scholar. He is revered not only by the Muslim community, but by other communities as well. He was known for fostering harmony between people of all communities.
On Wednesday evening, as news of his demise spread, a pall of gloom descended on entire Bhatkal. Members of Majlis-e-Islah-wa-Tanzeem held a meeting and decided to declare a holiday for all Muslim educational institutions in Bhatkal on Thursday February 18. The people of Bhatkal, as a mark of respect, voluntarily closed down their shops and businesses for the day.
It is learnt that Bhatkalis in all the Gulf countries too closed down their shops as a mark of respect.
The funeral prayer will be held on Thursday at 10 am at Jamia Masjid and he will be laid to rest at the cemetry in Takiya street.
Sevavahini president Surendra Shanbhag, MLA Mankala Vaidya, Congress leader F K Mogera, Bhatkal taluk panchayat former president Parameshwara Devadiga and various community organizations expressed their condolences. Educational institutions like Anjuman, Shams, Naunihal, Ali Public, Islahul Banaat, Jamia Islamia and others will remain closed on Thursday.
