Kundapur, Feb 23: Police in Kundapur are puzzled after they learned that a theft has taken place at the residence of a former head constable. The theft took place at the residence of H Naga Mogaveera on Anegudde Vinayaka temple road at Thekkatte near here.

The theft was discovered after Mogaveera came to his house on the morning of Monday, February 22. He had left for Bengaluru on February 2 on account of some treatment for his heart related ailment. Mogaveera upon arrival to his house, to his dismay, discovered that the main locks of the house were broken from outside. He phoned Kundapur police immediately regarding the theft.

The thieves had opened three cupboards and a locker to steal Rs 5,000 kept there. Police suspect that local people are involved in the theft. Police inspector Nasir Hussein is investigating the case.

Mogaveera worked as head constable at Mangaluru DAR before retirement.

Some people in the locality say that there is a power cut every midnight in the area. They have complained to the Mescom department who have not responded yet. They feel that thieves get better chance to steal from houses when the electricity goes off at night.

Thieves take the opportunity to ransack houses when the occupants are away for a long time. They usually target houses mostly in the night. I hope the former head constable will recover his stolen belongings once the robbers are caught.
