Udupi, Sep 19:  In one of the biggest thefts in recent times, thieves who entered one Abdul Rahman Maragudde's house near Bada Yermal here have decamped with 39 sovereigns of gold and Rs 15,000 in cash. Theft was reported from Gunia house at Bada Yermal on Wednesday September 19.

The house belongs to a certain Abdul Rahman Maragudde. Since it is the Holy month of Ramadan, the members of Abdul's family were awake till late in the night.  But when they woke up again around 3 am, they came to know about the theft. 

The house was ransacked systematically.  Police sources said that this could be the handiwork of some known persons since the theft has taken place within a matter of few hours.

Padubidri police have registered the case and initiated probe in this regard.
