Bantwal, Oct 4: The ICYM Nirkan unit organised a programme titled “Salaam Police” on Sunday, September 27. The programme was organised to create awareness among the public, especially the youth, about anti-drug abuse, anti-religious activities, and cyber fraud, while also expressing gratitude to the police department for their dedicated service to society.
Following the introduction, the dignitaries were invited to the stage. The programme began with a prayer song rendered by Arwin Fernandes and Rishan Lobo, ICYM members. This was followed by the inauguration through the lighting of the lamp.
Rolvin D’Souza, president of the ICYM Nirkan unit, delivered the welcome address.













The programme was graced by Fr Anil Roshan Lobo, parish priest; Yash Kumar Sharma, ASP, Bantwal division; and Seetharam P, police inspector, Bantwal Rural police station, as the chief guests. Christon Menezes, ICYM Mangalore diocese president; Bavil Fernandes, treasurer of ICYM Mangalore diocese and deanery representative for Bantwal deanery; Rinie D’Souza, Bantwal deanery president; Sr Severine Fernandes, headmistress of St Thomas School, Nirkan; Austin Lobo, vice president of PPC; Adam, headmaster of Government College, Vogga; Shobha, warden of Morarji Desai School; Rolvin D’Souza, president of ICYM Nirkan unit; and Keerthana Lobo, secretary of ICYM Nirkan unit, were present on the stage. Other ICYM DESCO members and deanery office-bearers were also present.
The programme was inaugurated by Fr Anil Roshan Lobo & spoke about the importance of conducting such programmes and highlighted the need to create awareness among the youth and the community about social issues.
A felicitation was held in honour of Yash Kumar Sharma, ASP, and Seetharam P, police inspector, in recognition of their valuable service to society. Both officers addressed the gathering and conducted an informative awareness session on drug abuse, anti-religious activities, and cyber fraud, highlighting the importance of awareness, responsibility, and cooperation between the public and the police.
Students of Morarji Desai School and Government School, Vogga, along with parishioners, were also present as participants in the programme.
As a gesture of gratitude, a thanksgiving letter was presented to Yash Kumar Sharma, ASP. He was introduced by Arwin Fernandes, immediate past president of ICYM Nirkan. The letter was read by Rolvish Fernandes, former president of ICYM Nirkan.
Following this, Christon Menezes, ICYM Mangalore diocese president, delivered an inspiring speech, encouraging the youth to actively contribute towards building a safe and responsible society.
A group photo was taken with the dignitaries and participants. Around 75 people attended the programme, and breakfast was served to all.
The “Salaam Police” programme was a meaningful initiative that successfully spread awareness among the community and expressed sincere gratitude to the police for their dedicated service.
