Udupi, Sep 21: A pedestrian was grievously injured due to rash and reckless driving by a bus driver, at Polipu in Kaup, in the evening of Thursday, September 20.

The severely injured person has been identified as Shrinivas Shetty. The accident occurred when the bus due to rash driving by its driver, first collided with an iron-ore laden lorry and then lost control and then dashed past a tree. Before dashing against the tree, the bus en-route even hit the pedestrian Shetty, who was walking close by and therefore was caught off-guard, being grievously injured in the process.

After dashing against the tree, the driver managed to take the bus about half a kilometer away from the main accident spot and tried to escape. However, the vigilant locals soon caught up with him and handed him over to the police, sources here informed.
