Bremen's Schroeder joins Mainz as sporting director

Berlin, Mar 3 (IANS): Werder Bremen director of professional football Rouven Schroeder replaced outgoing Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel.

After a long back and forth, both Bundesliga clubs agreed on the transfer of Schroeder on Wednesday, who will replace designated Schalke manager Christian Heidel in the summer, reports Xinhua.

"We are delighted that Rouven Schroeder received his clearance to complete the transfer officially. He was our preferred candidate," Mainz president Harald Strutz said.

Schroeder joined Bremen in 2014-2015 to become the director of professional football and scouting. The 40-year-old will learn the ropes at Mainz in the coming weeks.

"Together with the board and in close coordination with Christian Heidel we will ensure a smooth transition," Strutz added.

Mainz, who sit in fifth place, visit front-runners Bayern Munich in the 24th round of Bundesliga.
