Moscow, March 16 (IANS): Agrofest-Don, the creditor of football club Rostov, has filed a lawsuit with an arbitration court in the Rostov Region in south Russia, to recognise the current leader of Russia’s Premier League as a bankrupt, the court has said.

"The lawsuit has been filed today. The plaintiff is demanding that the football club be recognized as a bankrupt. The lawsuit has not yet been accepted for proceedings and its details are unclear," a court representative said on Tuesday, reports Tass.

Agrofest-Don earlier filed several lawsuits against FC Rostov.

"Overall, more than 10 lawsuits worth over 93 million rubles ($1.3 million) resulting from loans and loan interest were filed in 2014. Amicable agreements under all these lawsuits were struck. The creditor agreed under almost all the lawsuits to more than halve the claims on interest," the court representative said.

Under the amicable agreements, FC Rostov was expected to repay almost 70 million rubles ($986,000) to Agrofest-Don before December 1, 2015.

FC Rostov beat CSKA of Moscow 2-0 on Saturday to climb to the top spot in the Russian Premier League table. Rostov and CSKA have both scored 40 points after 20 games but Rostov is ahead of the Moscow club on goal difference.
