Udupi: PM Modi responds to student's letter concerning NH-66 at Brahmavar

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (HB)

Udupi, Mar 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is known to respond to people whenever they write to him expressing their grievances. Just last month, Modi wrote back to a student from Mangaluru who complained about a road in Mangalpady gram panchayat limits, and in no time, the repair work on the road began. Now, in another such instance, PM Modi has responded to a student who wrote to him about the issues concerning the national highway 66 at Brahmavar.

The NH-66 at Brahmavar has been in the news time and again for its unscientific design, with locals holding repeated protests and politicians assuring solutions each time. But the issues remain unresolved.

With the hope that the PM's intervention would bring a positive change, Deepak Kanchan, son of Anand Kanchan and Varija, residents of Kolambe, Rajivnagar near Brahmavar, wrote to the PM explaining the issue. And got a response in no time.

A second-year student of SMS College, Brahmavar, Deepak on February 26 wrote a three-page letter to the PM narrating the problems faced by Brahmavar public.

Though he was hopeful of getting a response, he did not expect a prompt response. But to his surprise, on March 6, 2016, he received a letter bearing the letterhead of the Prime Minister Office, New Delhi. Within ten days, Kanchan had got a response from the PMO.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Deepak Kanchan said, "I wrote a letter to the Prime Minister with the hope that the problems of NH 66 would be sorted out. I tried my best to draw the attention of PM Modi on the dangerous four-way stretch of NH-66 at Brahmavar which has become a threat to the lives of pedestrians, students and senior citizens.

After explaining about the importance of the highway and the scant respect for traffic rules shown by vehicle drivers, Deepak stated in his letter: "Since the road leading to the bus stop is (on) the verge of getting demolished, buses avoid the bus stand and instead stop at the national highway for picking up the passengers. Passengers have to keep waiting on the road for the buses. Due to this mess, the shops situated in and around the bus stand junction are facing a hard time due to shortage of customers, thereby affecting their livelihood. (These) problems were discussed by the residents with the authorities, but no one seems to be interested in fixing the problem."

On behalf of Brahmavar students and residents, he urged through the letter: "To take corrective measures before it is too lae by letting the buses into the bus stand as it used to be earlier. This (will) not only ensure the safety of pedestrians but also (be) a sigh of relief to thousands of people."

He also enclosed photographs of the highway with the letter so as to give a clear idea of the situation.

Speaking to media persons, Deepak said in addition to the above, a temporary circle should be constructed on the highway to regulate the traffic till the completion of Brahmavar underpass.

In response, the letter from the PMO directed the chief secretary of the government of Karnataka to take appropriate action in the matter and reply to Deepak, and also to uploaded a copy of the response on the PMO website.

Deepak’s parent, friends and Brahmavar NH committee members appreciated Deepak. Now that the PM has responded to his letter, Deepak is hoping for the best and looking forward to further action on the unscientific highway.

Hello friends... let's appreciate this development when the problem really gets solved... why hurry now? If it gets solved then all Indians can write their grievances directly to PMO only.... We are so silly.. We act as if PM only read the letter and replied.. someone truly said that it's just the forwarding like post office by staff of PMO.....use some common sense guys..

It is PM or PMO which is not relevant here.... We have a PM (Actually and Really). Thats why PMO is also working well.

When PM or BJP party in their meeting made it compulsory to be in social media means... Mutual Benefit... Publicity for the Elected Member and Service for the Citizen who elected him/her. Overall Theme is machinery should function seamlessly.

It is not wise to de-rail the machinery or search black spots with extra intelligence here...

Hope the work is done, and the public at Brahmavar get what they deserve.
Issue is that ego prevails, and now the Authorities out there will delay the work on purpose just because the issue had been notified to PM.

Good Job Mr.Deepak, what you have done is 100% correct. When a Child does not behave, tell Parents to correct. If still does not correct, then tell Grand Father to correct. Next one will be from Mangalore to PMO if MCC Officials do not care when requested for years to solve Public Problem. Look at the Rear Entrance Gate to MCC,which causes everyday bikes to tip over. Given in writing 17 months back on 24th October 2014, to Mr Ivan D'Souza. Multiple times I visited His office and requested, but ZERO result. I will be doing the same thing as Mr Deepak Kanchan did. Public should look at the OPEN Electric boxes in Mangalore. Everywhere there are open boxes with live electricity. Little Children can touch and get killed. Some boxes are just about 15 inches above the ground level. I will be writing to PMO with Photos about this problem before some innocent Child get killed for ignorance of Mescom and MCC. Employees. There are 4 boxes near St.Angela School,Bejai. These boxes are without covers and 2 ft. above ground. Little Children walk next to it all the time.

Mr Veerappa is cent per cent correct. The article itself is misleading its readers by declaring that "PM Modi" has responded. Fact is that the PMO has responded. NOT THE "PM Modi" . Anybody who has done this wiht past PM's would have also received such a response.I agree that the perception that there was a response does make a person feel elated that the PMO has responded to a citizen. This is standard normal procedure and bureaucrats who are thick skinned and who know how the system works will simply file and forget about this letter. Fact also is that the PMO will not track and find out what happened about its letter. Actually the PMo is merely acting like a post office by forwarding the letter to an appropriate authority. If something gets done then great if nothing gets done then well its happened many times before! In fact you can write a complaint letter to any of the higher authorities in any department and they will simply and blindly forward your letter to the appropriate authority and then both of them will file it and forget it. Anyway that does not mean we must stop complaining or writing. Fact also is that 95% of the people only crib and gossip but never put their complaints in writing to the appropriate authorities and thereafter follow it up until a result is obtained.

Whoever writes letter to Prime Minister or President of India as per set norms it is always responded by PMO or Prez Office, and such letters are sent to the concerned dept with a remark -"for Necessary action or for doing the Needful". This has been the set system since the time of Lal Bahadur Shastri and a separate officer is appointed in PMO to handle only such letters received from all over India in any Language.
But earlier PMs never made is a publicity matter, where as present Publicity crazy PM Modi's PRO firm is always making such letters as a very great achievement of Modi alone and trying to hog free publicity.
