Tumakuru, Apr 11: People of Shankarapura extension in Huliyaru in the district staged road blockade on Sunday in protest against an incident in which a girl from the area was made unconscious before she was abducted and raped.
 
A girl belonging to the Lambani group of houses in the village had gone backside of her house to attend to nature's call, when some people abducted her. After raping her, they brought her back without attracting the notice of anyone, and fled after leaving her at the same spot. After the new spread like wildfire on Sunday morning, locals erupted in anger.
 
In connection with the incident, the policemen arrested a local named Dadapeer (22) on Sunday morning itself and interrogated him. But the protesters, who suspected that the girl was gang-raped, demanded for the arrest of all culprits. They blocked the road at the police station circle of Huliyaru and held protest. They dragged wooden logs to the road, torched the tyres, and blocked the road to express their anger.
 
Police sub-inspector, Praveen Kumar, who arrived at the spot, was mobbed by the protesters. Although he appealed to the protesters to disperse in view of the fact that one person has been arrested and investigation is continuing, the protesters stuck to their demand for the arrest of all involved. 
 
The policemen then led the accused to Chikkanayakanahalli police station where he was booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, atrocities against SCs and STs, etc on the basis of statement made by the girl. 
 
Deputy superintendent of police from Tiptur, Ravikumar, discussed the matter with protesters, and promised to see that all the culprits are subjected to stringent punishment. Thereafter, the protesters dispersed.
