M'lore: Konkani Writers Urged to Donate Konkani Books to School Libraries

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (MM/RD)

Mangalore, Oct 13: Students of 91 schools in the state are studying Konkani as a third optional language now. There are plans to set up Konkani libraries in these schools. ‘Mithr’ Konkani weekly has been dispatching a complimentary copy every week to these schools. Besides this, the students are not getting any Konkani books to read.

At the same time, several books are getting published in Konkani literary field, but they are not reaching the Konkani readers, owing to poor marketing. Hence, one can think of donating these published books to these schools, urged Vitori Karkala, member, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.

Most of the Konkani writers have been requested to support this issue, and they have agreed to join hands for this cause. The books thus collected will be distributed to the schools, during the Konkani Teachers’ Training Day, which has been scheduled to be held in the last week of October.

All Konkani authors who write books in Konkani script have been requested once again to donate their books. They can hand-over 91 copies of each book they published, to the office of ‘Mithr’ Konkani weekly, by October 25. The books delivered later will be preserved for distribution in the coming days.

For more information, please contact Vitori Karkal, on: 9845209374 or vitorikarkal@gmail.com

At the same time, the Konkani teachers have been urged to make the optimum use of the available books.
