Acid attack case- convicts walk free after being sentenced

Puttur, May 1: Two persons, who were convicted in acid attack case, walked free on the day the sentence was pronounced.

Mohan Kumar Hegde and Prashanth are the persons convicted and walked free.

Mohan Kumar and Prakash had attacked Sitarama Acharya, his children Amrutesh and Rajkumar with acid on April 7 in 2012 at Sampya near here. Puttur 5th additional court, on April 28, had pronounced them guilty after the trail of more than four years. Another accused Prema was acquitted. The sentencing was reserved for April 30.

The court, on April 30, sentenced Mohan Kumar and Prashanth with 4 years and 15 days each jail and Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 fines respectively. The court learned that the convicts have already spent the jail as undertrails for a period of 4 years and 15 days. The time spent in the judicial custody was adjusted with the punishment, and the convicts were allowed to walk free after paying the fine. Previously their applications were rejected.
