HC disposes of Col. Purohit’s bail petition in Malegaon 2008 blasts

Mumbai, Jun 10 (The Hindu): The Bombay High Court on Thursday disposed of the bail plea filed by Col. Shrikant Purohit, co-accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts case, and directed him to file a fresh plea at the sessions court. A division Bench of Justice Naresh Patil and Justice P. D. Naik said fresh material has come forward with the National Investigation Agency filing the supplementary charge sheet, and asked the lower court to decide the matter in six weeks.

Col. Purohit has been in jail for over seven years and his bail pleas have been previously rejected by the HC and the trial court. Appearing for him, advocate Shrikant Shivde had previously said that several 1993 blasts accused, who had a bigger role to play than the Col., and who were part of the worst attacks in the country, were granted bail.
