I really don't understand what both BJP and congress are hellbent on implementing this impractical project. there is some big players involved in it. atleast for the sake of our future generations we should leave aside our differences and ideologies and be united. this project will not benefit the upper karnataka instead will create more water scarcity.

Our government is focusing on peace meal solution which will never solve the need of water in the state which is growing on daily basis. As per international survey a minimum of 150liters/day/person required which means entire Karnataka state with about 6 crore population requires about 90-100 TMC/year for domestic use only, all other requirements for industrial purpose are additional. Where is that water to bring and distribute to the length and breadth of the sate.

As per the statistics available with National Institute of Oceanography, Goa, water from 13 rivers in DK, Udupi and North Kanara districts dumps about 1695 TMC to the Arabian sea every year during the rainy season. If the govt. can make arrangement to store the flood water in the ocean base reservoirs by building sea wall/break waters and pump the same to upper Karnataka, entire state can be flooded. Besides, river basins of three coastal districts will be filled with fresh water thru ought the year providing water for irrigation for thousands of hectares. Ground water table will also be increased in all these areas. Yes investment will be huge but one time investment will solve the drinking and irrigation water problem for ever. Nethravati river alone dumps 100 TMC of water to Arabian sea every year which is enough for the entire state drinking water requirement
