Andheri court issues non-bailable warrant against Vijay Mallya

Mumbai, Jul 17: A metropolitan magistrate court at Andheri issued a non-bailable warrant against Vijay Mallya in a case of cheque bouncing on Saturday. The case had been filed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

The magistrate hearing the case had directed Mallya to appear before the court on Saturday. He had also said that he will issue an NBW if Mallya fails to appear. Hence, the NBW was issued following Mallya’s absence in the court.

The court was hearing a case filed by the AAI against Kingfisher Airlines in connection with two cheques, of around Rs 100 crore, which were dishonoured.

The two applications filed by AAI sought cancellation of permanent exemption from court appearance granted to Mallya, who has since left the country, and sought an arrest warrant against him. Earlier, AAI’s lawyer had argued in the court that in view of cancellation of Mallya’s passport, his lawyer may not be able to produce him in the court if the court orders so.
