Udupi, Jul 20: We live in the fast food era. The new generation does not know where the food they eat is cultivated and how. Most of them do not have any idea about farms or farming. In an attempt to teach the students the value of agriculture, a school here has taken a great initiative of taking them to the paddy field and engaging them in agricultural activities.

School children from tenth standard of Nittur high school were seen busy in the paddy field, learning the important skills in addition to their learning in classes. Their teachers gave them practical lessons about paddy cultivation.

The students enjoyed their outing. They worked in the half-an-acre field like experienced farmers. About 80 students who had come to the field planted the saplings under the supervision of experts. They also played some sports in the field.

Student learned that the farmer, who is the backbone of the country, works hard to feed the nation. One hopes that many more schools follow the lead.

If students from Spain come to kundapur and get experience in the paddy field (refer 19th July news and pictures on daijiworld) why not our school children get knowledge and experience in the paddy cultivation. I appreciate the teachers and organizer who arrange this. We can see smile on the faces of most of the students. I hope to see other schools also follow this. After all one or two times in a season they have to do. The sweet memory will remain for a long time in the minds of students.

Way to go. The Nai Talim school curriculum of Mahatma Gandhi does stress the all round development of the child through craft, drawing, agriculture and finally theoretical learning.

This is the right age of development to practice later age what they learn now. Children are our future nation. Hats off to the school management. Hope schools from city follow this example. Sad to express most of the schools and colleges busy finding various means to make money rather than creating opportunities for their all round development.

Well said, its not only the politicians work, everyone of us should respect a farmer.Do we have sympathy towards them? How much we protest for the farmers. We do not bargain in Malls but we bargain for one rupee when a farmer sells something he grown. Nobody shares in anything when farmers protest or suicide. But we share sahrukh/salman sneezes. all of us forgot who is farmer and we blame politicians. If everyone comes to street supporting farmers no government can stand.

Great initiative by the school. well done. I hope more schools do this often. This practical knowledge may bring in more interest for children to decide their carriers diffrently rather than only medicine and Engineering.
