Bengaluru, Jul 21: In a major relief to lakhs of students, who have failed in 10th and 12th standard examinations held in April last, can now attend regular classes in schools and PU colleges they studied to get pass percentage marks or improving their previous marks.

The State Government has amended the rule to benefit the students to improve their results, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait told reporters in Bengaluru on Thursday.

He said the amended rule is applicable only in schools and colleges affiliated to the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board and the Pre-University Certificate Board in Karnataka.

Until now, failed students have been prohibited from attending regular classes in schools and colleges and the students used to appear for supplementary examinations by studying at home.

The minister said students who wanted to improve their SSLC and PU marks can also attend classes regularly to study subjects.

The government schools in the State are facing shortage of 22,000 teachers and 13,306 teachers would be appointed this year additional teachers, he said.

As many as 21 out of the 34 educational districts in the State were facing shortage of teachers. There are 4164 schools with single teachers, Sait said.
