Padubidri: Son on way to Mother's Funeral amongst 3 Killed in Road Accident

Padubidri/Santhoor, Nov 30: In a ghastly and heart-renching accident, three persons who were on their way to attend funeral of a relative were killed and 10 people were injured in a collision between a tempo trax and express bus at Kanjarkatte, on Padubidri-Kudremukh state highway on Friday November 30.

The tempo plying towards the Kantavar in Karkala was hit by a speeding private express bus plying towards Mangalore at Kanjarkatte. As a result, three persons travelling in the tempo sustained injuries and died.  Along with that another 10 persons have also been injured.

The deceased have been identified as Vithal Salian (45), a resident of Kantavar, in Belvai village, Dinesh (22), son of Sanjeev Amin and Neelaksha (23), son of Palimar Shekar Salian.  

The injured have been identified as Sumati (40), Shekhar Salian (70), Renuka (30), Ramdas Shenoy (35), Sooda Bhaskar Poojary (40), Ibrahim (33), Nagaraj Kerekad (20), Narayan Pandit (52) and Srinivas Shetty (57).

While Vithal died on the spot, Dinesh breathed his last on the way to the hospital while Neelaksha died in the Udupi government hospital.

Sources said that Renuka and Neelksha had come from Mumbai to attend the funeral of their mother who had passed away on Thursday.  They had started along with 4 of their relatives on Thursday from Mumbai and had reached Padubidri at 9.30 am on Friday.  But the vehicle which was supposed pick them up from Padubidri had not come.  Though the local taxi drivers offered them to reach home, Neelaksha called home and insisted to send a vehicle from Belvai.

Accordingly Vithal came with his Trax to pick them up.  As their vehicle reached Kanjarkatte, which is around 7-8 kms away from Padubidri, Vishal bus, plying to Mangalore collided with the Trax. It was indeed a painful news to all who were waiting them at Kantavar for the final rites of Neelaksha and Renuka's mother.  The ones who made a long journey from Mumbai to attend the funeral might never have thought that it would be their final journey too.

Laboo Ram, superintendent of police, Pradeep Naik, circle inspector, Navinchandra Jogi, Padubidri sub-inspector, visited the spot and consoled the injured passengers.

Padubidri police have registered the case and initiated the probe on the circumstances which led to the tragic accident.
