Puttur, Aug 24: P V Sindhu, who has brought laurels to India by winning silver medal at the Rio Olympics, is likely to visit Dakshina Kannada district soon to pay obeisance at holy places along with her family. They are likely to visit Subrahmanya, Dharmasthala, and Kollur temples, said former National Institute of Sports NIS) coach, Puttur-based V Narayan.

V Narayan, presently living at Sampya, it is gathered, had provided training to Vijaya, mother of Sidhu, who was a very good volleyball player, and who represented Tamil Nadu in this sport.

V Narayan

Narayan, who happens to be technical committee member of Volleyball Federation of India and Beach Volleyball, is a native of Kerala. He was a celebrated volleyball player and had been volleyball coach through NIS. Through NIS, Narayan had been trainer for Tamil Nadu team, and Vijaya, a student in 1981, had taken part in the state level camp. Vijaya, a student of a college at Chennai from 1981 to 1984, had taken part in the state level volleyball camp and V Narayan had trained her.

It is learnt that Vijaya continues to have contact with Narayan, and she had called Narayan to share the joy of her daughter having won a medal. When the family expressed the desire to visit religious centres in Karnataka coast, he suggested Kollur, Subrahmanya, and Dharmasthala, it is gathered.

Narayan recollects that Vijaya, a fine volleyball player, had represented Tami Nadu in youth, senior, and university level games when he was the trainer. He says that he joined Syndicate Bank as coach after voluntarily leaving coaching work in 1984. However, the family of Vijaya has kept in touch with him through telephonic calls, he reveals.

Classic example of how we turn everything into a religious obsession. Her performance has everything to do with her hardwork, dedication and excellent coaching and nothing to with temples or religion.
As far as the country and its people get mired in such rituals and do not follow the true spirit of what religion means we can never hope to excel.

Welcome to Tulu Nadu..Parashurama Kshetra..Actually,I feel God's OWN country is Tulu Nadu and not Kerala..Number of famous Temples/Churches are more here than in Kerala..and if you talk about scenic beauty,,Ofcourse both Tulu Nadu and Kerala go neck to neck..Hills,Rivers,Sea,Falls..everywhere,both sides..

    All the Best Sindhu!

Seeking Almighty's blessing is foremost never forget to thank Almighty , our parents and teachers. In your case your gur, Shri. Gopi, who has sacrificed his comforts so that the dreams of achievers are fulfilled.

Forget the good for nothing politicians and sports authority, who use our tax money for their own comforts and give babaji ka tullu to sportsmen
