Bombay HC allows women in inner sanctum of Haji Ali dargah

Mumbai, Aug 26 (PTI/Agencies): The Bombay High Court on Friday allowed women's entry in Mumbai's Haji Ali dargah saying women should be permitted in the dargah along with men and Maharashtra government should ensure their safety.

The court said the ban imposed on women was contrary to the fundamental rights of a person as provided in Constitution.

Zakia Soman, Petitioner in the Haji Ali Dargah case, said this was a great step towards justice for Muslim women.

Trupti Desai, the founder of Bhumata Ranragini Brigade, halied the HC verdict as historic decision.

In 2012, the Haji Ali Dargah Trust had passed an order prohibiting women from entering the sanctum sanctorum. Subsequently, a public interest litigation (PIL) was filed challenging the order of the Trust.

The issue got the momentum in April 2016 when more than 50 organisations and prominent personalities launched a movement, Haji Ali sabke liye, demanding women be allowed in the dargah.

They came under one banner to launch the movement against the backdrop of nationwide campaigns and protests seeking entry of women in temples.

Trupti Desai, who spear-headed the campaign for entry of women at Shani Shingnapur temple, participated in that movement.

    Running a dargah is a big money making business, like tourism industry. Nothing to do with Islam. I am sure they can earn more if women are allowed.

    Worship the creator not the creation....Nobody goes to pray to Haji Ali...Regarding women leading the prayer this is not limited to any religion there are no women shankaracharyas ,no women popes ,no women Dalai Lamas ...etc..
    So this is not limited to any particular religion...
    Islam has given women rights to enter masjid..unfortunately South Asian Muslims prevented her from entering masjid

    Haji ali dargah is just a tourist place and it has nothing to do with islam.The honourable court must know that its not the green signal to interfere in quranic compulsion where the rules of islam might be deferent from modern media based theory of gender equality.Example a women cannot lead as imam congregation prayer mixing with men.

    There are lakhs and lakhs of case pending as Judiciary making people suffer and wait for 2 generation to get a final verdict. One side the Judges cry and accuse the govt for this, another side they waste their time in passing verdicts on nonsense issues especially with regards to Religion like this or Dahi handi cases, and then indirectly be responsible for spreading communal tensions which is totally uncalled for. Leave religious issues to the religion heads and its followers, let them decide what is best for their religion, their places of worship and their practices. Let Judiciary spend its valuable time to solve cases that's rotting since ages and affecting peoples daily lives making it hell waiting for verdict.

    Durgaa is not part of Islam.The purpose of visiting graves is to remember ones own death and think about Day of judgement as to refrain from evil deeds.There is no sense in asking for help with dead people who themselves does't know when they will be bring to life again even if they are prophets.It is simple dead people cannot hear.It is open secret'SABSE BADA RUPAYYA"

    You will see many people flock near Haji Ali Dargah..especially people who come on holiday visit with there family members. Why did all of sudden halted entry of women's in 2012. Before it is allowed and moving smoothly. We should respect verdict of court..and given one more chance for womens to do jiharaat properly. It shows court demands equality between both genders. May be Haji Ali Juice Center will flourish once again with the decision. Earlier even shooting occuring inside dargah compound..wherein jackie,tanuja and other's attended.
