Mumbai, Aug 31 (TOI): The Shiv Sena, which rules the Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), is surprisingly not among the top three political parties in terms of performance, according to data released by the NGO Praja on Tuesday.

The top three parties were the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) with a score of 64.26%, Congress with 63.96% and the BJP with 63.91%. The Shiv Sena scored 63.05%. However, six of the corporators among the top 10 were from the Sena while not a single BJP corporator figured among the top performers.

Nitai Mehta, managing trustee of Praja Foundation, said, "While ranking the corporators, his/her individual performance is assessed, but for parties the overall performance of the corporators of the party is taken into consideration." The NGO also raised the problem of a corporator holding two offices at the same time. "For example, the overall rank of Ameet Satam, who is also an MLA, dropped from 61 in 2014 to 205 in 2016. Therefore, there should be an amendment to ensure a corporator elected to another office gives up one post. It often becomes difficult for them to concentrate on two posts at the same time," said Milind Mhaske, project director, Praja Foundation.
