Mumbai, Sep 8: Mother Mary’s birthday was celebrated with pomp and gaiety in St Joseph Church situated at Sheetal Nagar, Mira road east, popularly known as Mini Mangaluru on Thursday morning, September 8.

St Joseph Seminary Jeppu rector Fr Joseph Martis celebrated the holy mass and gave a homily explaining the significance of celebrations. Church parish priest Fr Melwin D’Cunha (OCD) blessed the new paddy corns, grains and vegetable offered by farmers and increased the glaze of the celebrations.

Fr Joachim Rodrigues, Fr Deigo Proyenca and Fr Denis Misquith were the concelebrants of the mass. Fr Daniel Christian and Fr Lancy D’Souza participated in religious rites. Fr Martis released ‘Thuji Dayal Deest’, CD of hymns composed by Cajithan Dias. Fr Melwin handed over candles to honourable people. Arun Noronha read the list of donors.

The decorated statue of Velankanni mother was taken in a procession to the local streets after the mass. The festival was celebrated under the direction of St Joseph Konkani Welfare Association spiritual director Fr Melwin D’Cunha along with association president Deigo Rodrigues, vice president Wilson D’ Souza, other office bearers and members in the religious and cultural traditions.
