Mangalore, Dec 16: National Cadets Corps (NCC) plays decisive role in developing all round personalities of cadets. This also brings in discipline, social consciousness and other values, said Lt Col Chetri.

He was addressing the gathering at the valedictory ceremony of the ‘Combined Annual Training Camp’ for all the wings of army, held at Karnataka Polytechnic (KPT) here, on Sunday, December 16.

Punctuality and discipline are essential for cadets. India is still far-behind in terms of cleanliness and hygiene, which is the need of the hour. NCC cadets should set a classical example to others in this regard, by imbibing the values like cleanliness. NCC cadets should shoulder the responsibility of spreading the awareness among people in the society, he added.

NCC can be an apt platform where one could learn the life skills besides academic skills, he added.

Lt Radhakrishnan presented the camp report and Lt Col B Suresh Kumar welcomed the gathering.

Fr Michael, principal of Padua High School and Cap Jayaraj were present on the occasion.

National Cadets Corps is an important element and the Government should allocate abundant resources to para-military forces, including Territorial Army. Budgets can be allocated by cutting down excess manpower in the Government Departments and Public Sectors Undertakings. Government can be run by cutting down 75% of its manpower and laying emphasis on technology, equipment and modern techniques.

Government should also make military training compulsory in India, so that we have disciplined citizens and any person embarking on a political career should be made to undergo compulsory military training for two years or so and thereafter training of one month every year as reservists. This way, India will be able to ensure that we do not have politicians having criminal records, jail beards, smugglers, murderers, sellers of hooch, etc. India needs a large number of ground forces and we should be able to mobilise four to five million men in case of a major crisis with China.

I am not talking about our ground forces, namely Army, which number up to 1,200,000 men, but also reservists in the form of Border Security Forces, Central Reserve Police, State Reserve Police, Indo-Tibetan Forces, Rashtriya Rifles, National Cadet Corps, etc. I consider China to be the greatest threat to world peace and from what little we read in the media, I fear their patrols are encroaching into our positions and our Government is trying to downplay these serious situations, either because it is jittery and does not wish to create a panic situation in the country or it is totally scared about China. Contrary to the notion we have of Sardars, Dr. Manmohan Singh is an unusual Sardar and a rare specie, because he totally chickens out when facing problems of national and international proportions and is a total funk.

This has been amply proved when dealing with Leftist Parties, when he has shirked in condemning China, when he again shirked in condemning the Pakistani military strongman when he imposed emergency in Pakistan and arrested opponents. Dalai Lama has been invited by many countries, large and small, and they do not worry about China, which is the greatest violator of human rights. In fact, I wonder if there are any human rights in China? Why should India be concerned about China? Under the circumstances,

I found it quite bizarre and amazing to see that Dr. Manmohan Singh's Government did not have the gall to allow its Ministers and officials to attend the felicitation ceremony for Dalai Lama, when he received the Congressional Medal of Honour from the U.S. Senate.
