Rains lash Mumbai, IMD expects more on Saturday

Mumbai 24(TOI): Heavy rainfall on Friday night flooded many low-lying areas in the suburbs. Around 68mm rain in just one hour flooded Pedder Road. The IMD Mumbai has forecast heavy rains in the city over the next 24 hours.

The rainfall recorded in 12 hours from 8.30am to 8.30pm by Colaba observatory was 2mm and Santacruz 8mm.

While meagre rainfall was recorded all throughout Friday, heavy showers were witnessed towards the night in several parts of Mumbai and suburbs.

The BMC said they had started pumps on Friday to clear the water and traffic movement was not affected much. Waterlogging was reported at Khar and Andheri subways along with some other areas in the western suburbs on Friday evening.

The heavy showers on Friday, along with potholes on Mumbai roads, added to woes of motorists travelling back home. Several areas in Parel, Chembur and Sion were water logged. However, civic authorities claimed that the situation was under control. The BMC pothole helpline has recorded over 4,500 pothole complaints from the beginning of monsoon upto now.
