Mumbai: Over Rs 11-crore bid made to light Jain monk's pyre


Mumbai, Sep 26 (Midday News): Jain monk, Pujya Vijay Premsurishwarji Maharaj Sahab, passed away yesterday at 12.18 am at the Saifee Hospital, Charni Road.

He was 93-years-old. He had been admitted to the hospital as he had been unwell for some time.

Five businessmen bid for the right to light his pyre, a total amount of Rs 11,11,11,111.

Jains pay their respects
The monk’s palkhi yatra began yesterday at Walkeshwar at 2 pm, passed by Prarthana Samaj, Hughes Road and reached Panchsheela Plaza at 4.30 pm. Jains attended the last rites in large numbers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his respects after the monk passed away.
