Udupi, Oct 4: Cellphones worth about Rs 12 lac were stolen from Samsung showroom at Kunjibettu here supposedly during the wee hours of Monday October 3. The thieves managed to force open a wide gap in the shutter door of the shop and break the lock of the glass door inside before decamping with 70 mobile phones.

The incident came to light on Monday morning. When going away at the end of the day on Sunday, the employees had downed the shutter and locked it in the corners, apart from locking the glass door. The middle portion of the shutter was not locked although there was a provision to do so.

The staff of the showroom saw when they came to the shop on Monday morning that the shutter had been forced open at the middle portion, and cellphones had been stolen as above.

A complaint about the theft stands filed in the town station here. Going by the fact that thefts of cellphones had happened in the past too during late night on Sundays, people believe that the same gang of thieves is involved with all these thefts.
