Teen who tried to rape 5 year old arrested, Maha CM appeals for calm

Nashik, Oct 10 (Zee News): A teenaged boy has been arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a minor girl in Nashik district of Maharashtra, officials said.

The 16-year-old boy allegedly raped the girl at an isolated place at Talegaon village under Trimbakeshwar taluka in the district on Saturday, Trimbakeshwar police station in-charge Mukund Deshmukh said.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis too confirmed the arrest of the juvenile accused and said a chargesheet has been filed against him. "The accused has been arrested and an order to file a charge-sheet at the earliest has been given," CM Fadnavis said.

As soon as the news spread, tension gripped Talegoan as locals gathered at the police station demanding that the accused be handed over to them so that he could be punished by them. Scores of angry villagers on Sunday torched a police vehicle and a public transport in Trimbakeshwar village.

Police officials have asked the protesters to maintain calm and assured justice. Doctors have, meanwhile, said three gynaecologists are monitoring the victim constantly.

In view of the situation, Nashik Police Commissioner Ravindra Singhal has appealed people to maintain peace.
