Chamarajanagara: Theft at KSRTC depot - Rs 18 lac recovered

Chamarajanagara, Oct 22: In connection with the theft of cash amounting to Rs 28 lac from the treasury room of the office of the divisional controller of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) here, police officers have arrested four persons. The arrested persons are Abdul Rehman (23), Kifayatulla Shariff (23), Lokesh alias Mani (20), and a juvenile delinquent. All the thieves hail from the town, it is gathered.

The gang had stolen Rs 28 lac from the two lockers of the depot after midnight on October 16. Rs 18 lac in cash, gas cutter, LPG cylinder, cutting plier, chilly powder and an auto rickshaw used for the crime stand recovered from the accused.

"Abdul Majeed, father of main accused, Abdul Rahman, used to buy scrap available at the KSRTC depot. Sometimes, Rahman too accompanied his father to clean the unit. He used to observe when his father went there for collecting changes, closely. On the basis of knowledge so got, he planned to steal cash from here," said district superintendent of police, Kuldeep Kumar R Jain, at a press conference held on Friday.

He said that as per the details collected so far, there was no role of any KSRTC employee in this theft. "Rehman bought a cell phone out of the money stolen and got released some ornaments pledged to a finance firm. He also cleared some loans he raised from individuals," he explained. He exuded the confidence of recovering the remaining amount of cash soon.

He observed that CCTV camera has not been fitted inside the treasury room and that taking security measures like this will make investigation work easier.
