• Support extended by AMUCT, 18 other organisations.

Mangalore Jan 6: The case of the harassed city lecturer Shakuntala Kamath, who was terminated from her service at Narayana Guru college and has been staging dharna since December 31, in front of Deputy Commissioner (DC) office in the city here, received a moral boost.

This has happened due to the Association of Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT), along with 18 other organisations offering  their full support and backing to Kamath.

Prof A M Narahari, president of the Federation of University and College Teachers’ Associations in Karnataka (FUCTAK), while speaking to media persons here on Saturday, Jan 5 informed Shakuntala Kamath has been seeking justice for the ill treatment, harassment and wrongful termination without enquiry by the management of Narayana Guru College.

He declared “The saga of her struggle and the favourable judicial pronouncements has already been documented. The Supreme Court had ordered reinstatement of Kamath and the present struggle is a ‘fight to finish’ and will continue till an amicable settlement is reached,” he added.

Moreover he informed that as the next step to intensify her agitation, Kamath will be going on a hunger strike for one week from January 7 till January 12.  If the issue is not solved, then she will resort to an indefinite hunger strike too, stated prof Narahari.

Also according to him the teachers’ associations have already submitted a memorandum to the DC who in turn has promised to hold talks with the belligerent college management and solve the issue amicably.
